1918 Pipe Wrench

Overview

More than a century after its manufacture, this TRIMO No. 14 pipe wrench continues to tell two stories: one of American industrial craftsmanship and one of family heritage. Produced by the Trimont Manufacturing Company of Roxbury, Massachusetts and incorporating a 1918 patented design, this wrench represents the tools that helped build the plumbing, steam, and water infrastructure of early twentieth-century America.

Unlike many antique tools acquired through auctions or estate sales, this wrench has remained within my family for generations. My great-grandfather worked as a plumber during the 1920s and 1930s, and the wrench was passed from family member to family member before ultimately finding its way to me. While it arrived heavily oxidized and worn from decades of use and storage, the underlying construction remained remarkably intact, making it an ideal candidate for restoration and continued service.
