The Concept
“As a pheasant hunter, identifying a rooster versus a hen in flight often depends on recognizing a handful of visual cues in an instant: the iridescent head, white neck ring, brown body, and long tail.”
This sculpture began as a designer toy project inspired by the ring-necked pheasant, born from a lifelong connection to upland hunting in the rural Midwest. The goal was simple: reduce a familiar subject to its most essential visual characteristics while preserving its identity in an instant.
Rather than pursuing realism, ROOSTER! emphasizes these defining cues through simplified geometry, exaggerated proportion, bold color, and graphic pattern.
